SPRAY SEAL DRIVEWAY - WAMBOIN

Location: Wamboin, NSW

Surface: 2-Coat Spray Seal

Service: Rural Driveway

Scope: Road shoulder sealing to QPRC requirements · Site preparation · Spray seal driveway entrance past the front gate · On-the-day traffic management

This Wamboin property needed its road shoulders sealed to meet QPRC requirements, and the owners wanted the entrance past the front gate sealed at the same time. We prepared the area, spray sealed the shoulders and the entrance, and managed traffic on the day, so the owners had one contractor for the whole job.

The brief

The owners needed the road shoulders at their entrance sealed to QPRC's requirements [as a condition of their approval]. With the shoulders being done, it made sense to continue the seal past the front gate, giving them a clean, sealed entrance that wouldn't wash out or drag gravel onto the road.

Working beside a rural road

Road shoulders sit in the road reserve, so the work had to meet council's standard and be done safely alongside passing traffic.

  • Traffic management: Traffic control was set up on the day to manage vehicles past the site and keep the crew and road users safe while the shoulders were prepared and sealed.

  • Meeting QPRC requirements: The shoulders were prepared and sealed to council's standard, so the work could be signed off.

  • Drainage and levels: Getting water to run away from the road and the entrance is what keeps a rural seal intact through heavy rain.

The finish: spray seal, from the road to past the gate

With the base prepared and compacted, we applied a two-coat spray seal across the road shoulders and up through the entrance past the front gate. Hot bitumen is sprayed over the base and covered with stone, then rolled. A second coat with a smaller stone locks the first in place for a tighter, longer-lasting surface.

Spray seal suits rural driveways like this one. It's the most cost-effective sealed finish, it matches the look of a sealed country road, and it stands up to cars, trucks and trailers turning in from the road.

What we did

  • Prepared the road shoulders and entrance, excavating and compacting the base to the right depth and falls.

  • Sealed the road shoulders to QPRC requirements.

  • Spray sealed the driveway entrance from the road through to past the front gate.

  • Provided traffic management on the day, keeping the road safe while the work was carried out.

One team across site prep, sealing and traffic management, so the owners weren't left coordinating separate contractors.

The result

A sealed entrance and road shoulders that meet council's requirements and finish the property's frontage properly. No more loose gravel at the gate, no more washouts where the driveway meets the road, and a clean, durable surface for every vehicle coming and going.

FAQ

Why did the road shoulders need sealing?

Where a rural entrance meets a sealed road, council often requires the shoulder to be sealed so the road edge doesn't break up and gravel isn't dragged onto the road. The requirements depend on your road and your approval conditions.

Do I need traffic management for driveway work beside the road?

Yes. Any work in the road reserve beside live traffic needs traffic control to keep road users and workers safe. We organise it as part of the job.

Can you seal the rest of my driveway at the same time?

Yes. Many rural owners extend the seal past the gate or up the full driveway while the crew and equipment are on site. We'll quote both at your assessment.
